About Our Council

Being a Knight of Columbus means that you believe in the Roman Catholic Church and its teachings. This is the basis on which we exemplify our charitable endeavors both within the community and our Order.
Our principles help guide us so that in:
Happy Moments, We PRAISE God
Difficult Moments, We SEEK GOD
Quiet Moments, We WORSHIP GOD
Painful Moment, We TRUST GOD
Every Moment, We THANK GOD
And by working together we are better able to appreciate OUR Brothers Knights and their families. The real key here is both praying and working together!

An excerpt about Council 15 from Fr. Arthur DuPont's "History of St. Thomas Church" (1960)

"In March of 1885, under Fr. [Matthew] Hunt's guidance, the Knights of Columbus was organized in Southington. The 1880's were the heyday of men's fraternal societies, most of them antagonistic to the Church. The Knights of Columbus provided Catholic men with the opportunity to belong to a fraternal organization and at the same time to be of service to the Church, for Knights always considered themselves to be the "right arm of the Church."

Almost all the early members of the Knights belonged to the Saint Patrick Society. When their petition for a charter was accepted, the whole group became members of Isabella Council 15. The first Grand Knight of the council was Thomas Buckley. John Simpson held the post of Financial Secretary. Their meetings in the early days were held in Buckley Hall in Plantsville and later in the Celtic Hall on Railroad Avenue."
